London’s Epic Street Food Pergola Is Perfect For Sunlit Evenings

“>

Summer hotspot Pergola Paddington makes a grand return for 2020.

There’s a lot more to Paddington than train stations and floating parks, you know. And chief amongst your reasons to go west this summer is the relaunch of Pergola Paddington, the ravishing rooftop bar and street food hub that’s just made for summer afternoons. Opening once more on July 4, the ever-popular spot is making a belated comeback after the coronavirus pandemic.

The 2019 edition of Pergola Paddington.

Taking a cue from the picturesque Mediterranean coast, Pergola Paddington is elegantly draped in foliage and (hopefully) drenched in sun. With space for 850 summer-starved Londoners – although presumably they’ll not see quite that number in the age of social distancing – the fully alfresco upper deck is a bustling place, thrumming to the sounds of cocktail bars and street food vendors hard at work. (Don’t worry, some parts of it are under shelter to tame that unpredictable beast known as ‘British weather.)

Speaking of which, Pergola Paddington have unveiled a stellar new lineup for the 2020 season. Babek Brothers will sizzle up trademark kebabs and that most glorious of treats: halloumi fries. Meanwhile, Temaki Bros bring fresh sushi rolls and bowls to the roof, Thunderbird is go with their epic fried chucks, and Salt Shed will run the barbecue with mouthwatering results.

Two huge bars will be sorting you out with the likes of cocktails, beer, and bubbles, and we’d advise you to make seeking out the seven highly covetable ‘day beds’, where you can catch some rays on a sunny afternoon. Any time we can be simultaneously out-on-the-town and lying in bed is a huge win, as far as we’re concerned!

Location: 5 Kingdom Street, W2 6PY. Nearest station is Paddington. See it on Google Maps.

Opening hours: seven days a week, 12-11pm.

Price: entry is free (see more free things to do in London), food varies depending on the vendor.
