This American taco joint loved by David Beckham, Barack Obama, and Will Smith has landed in London – with a secret tequila bar that serves the city’s hottest spicy margarita

Well, in case the headline above didn’t give it away, they’re all fans of US taco eatery group Coyo Taco. And that celeb-loved group of restaurants has just opened its first-ever UK location here in London. What first started in Miami, with roots in Coyoacán, Mexico City, has since grown to include sites across Florida and South America. And now you can find them smack bang in the middle of London, too. Naturally we had to go and have a look when they opened up. Have a look at our visit here: The motto at Coyo Taco is ‘Todo es fresco’. That means they make everything fresh, every single day. The menu goes beyond similarly styled Mexican eateries in the capital. Where other spots will stop at tacos, burritos, and burrito bowls, Coyo Taco brings even more Mexican flavour to its menu. Go in the morning, and you can chow down on Breakfast burritos, quesadillas, and chilaquiles. And throughout the day, alongside the tacos, guests can also enjoy tortas – a much-loved Mexican sandwich that is filled to bursting with toppings. And there are also desserts such as Tres Leches Cake and Bunuelos. But that’s not to say that the tacos and burritos are to be ignored. With freshly hand-pressed tortillas made to order, fillings range from Beef Birria to Chicken Al Carbon, Grilled Cauliflower, and Tempura Hake. And be sure not to skip the Beef Birria Quesadilla. (And grab 10 napkins to clean up afterwards…) Credit: Coyo Taco Be sure to wash it all down with a drink, such as their soon-to-be-legendary frozen margaritas. Or go all out and grab a Mexican Bulldog – which upends a mini bottle of Mexican lager into your frozen marg. And keep an eye out for their daily rotating flavour of the Frozen Margarita del Dia. Half-gallon margaritas On a recent visit, chatting to Kuvi Hospitality CEO Shereen Ritchie, who was responsible for bringing the brand to the UK, I discovered that on an average day the restaurant sells a whopping 150 litres of frozen margaritas. And that number is set to explode, with the release of Coyo Taco’s half-gallon frozen margaritas. The special summery offering is only available for one month, from July 24th, and you won’t want to miss it. Holding almost two litres of drink (aka half a gallon), the super-sized jugs of margs contain five standard 12oz frozen margaritas. And they’re just what you’ll need to survive the UK’s summer heatwave temperatures. If you go for a wander around Coyo Taco, you’ll spot a mysterious painted door. Step through, and you’ll find a low-lit, seductive bar that feels worlds away from the restaurant. Take a perch at the bar, or on the plush sofa seating, and you’ll lose hours of the evening as you sip on tequila, mezcal, and cocktails throughout the night. If you love spice, you’ll definitely want to check out the menu of spicy margaritas. And if you really think you can handle it, you should opt for the Escorpion. With a mix of both scorpion pepper and habanero, it’s almost definitely the spiciest margarita you can get in the city. With everything the bar has to offer, Bar Coyo might just become your favourite spot for a drink (or 7) in the city. 📍 2 Orchard Place, SW1H 0BF.🚇 The nearest station is St James’s Park.
