Oh mon dieu, you haven’t been to Tabac Bar?

Forget the Eurostar and tiresome Covid-19 travel updates, head to Tabac Bar and you’ll be transported straight to Paris hassle free. In the heart of Kentish Town you’ll find this beautiful atmospheric wine and cocktail bar complete with French decor, mood lighting and vintage music. There is no doubt that once you experience the romantic ambience, converse with the charming bartenders, and sip on their sensational beverages, you will be back for more.

This venue is cosy and compact but what they lack in size, they make up for in character and a certain je ne sais quoi. This bar is located in a former French tobacconist’s, and the original shop name and design have been preserved to embody the true spirit of France. And once you’re inside, the warm glow from the candlelight and mid-century style Parisian decor will also leave you questioning whether you’re still in the Big Smoke.

They have an impressive cocktail list and equally impressive bartenders that are both attentive and extremely knowledgable about all things alcohol related. A personal favourite is the Holywater, which is made with spiced rum and cognac and is garnished with a flaming lime – it’s definitely worth a try if you can handle the heat. The St. Germain Des Prés is another fabulous choice, and contains cucumber gin, St. Germain, chilli rum, egg white and pepper, resulting in a refreshing beverage with a kick.

Now it wouldn’t be a French bar without wine and thankfully, they have lots of it. The best part is that it won’t cost you an arm and a leg to enjoy a glass (or five…). Wine is served by the glass, filled to the brim and starts from as little as £3.50! And did we mention that between 5-6pm all cocktails, wines and champagnes are half price? I know where I’m heading this weekend…

If you work up an appetite trialling their wonderful drinks, there are plenty of bites to choose from. Pate, olives, nuts and saucisson are all on offer or you can opt for one of their beautifully prepared cheese and charcuterie boards. Either way, bon appétit!
