Wetherspoons Is Now Offering 99p Pints Ahead Of Thursday’s Lockdown

“>

Yes, you read that correctly. ‘Spoons is offering pints for 99p until lockdown commences on Thursday.

I never thought I’d see the day where a pint of beer cost less than a loaf of bread, but anything is possible these days. All Wetherspoons pubs in England are now offering pints of ale for under £1 until boozers close at 10pm on Wednesday, ahead of lockdown part two. Whatever isn’t sold before then will be disposed of, so the idea is to reduce as much waste as possible by practically giving drinks away. This may be the first and last time I order a round without fearing for my bank balance, it’s all very exciting.

The latest lockdown announcement came as a shock to most of us and unfortunately, many pubs are now having to consider throwing away stock as they did during the first lockdown. A whopping 70 million pints were wasted in March, and in order to prevent losing more than is absolutely necessary this time around, Wetherspoons is taking drastic measures. Some beers can stay fresh in a keg for months, however real ale expires within a matter of weeks – hence the attempt to sell as much as possible over the next few days.

Eddie Gershon, a spokesman for Wetherspoons, said “All of our pubs in England will be serving their real ales at 99p a pint until the pubs close on Wednesday night.” He continued “The reality is that any real ales not sold between now and lockdown will have to be thrown away, so it’s better that customers can enjoy it at a great price while the pubs remain open.” I couldn’t agree with you more Eddie.

Head to a ‘Spoons near you before close on Wednesday for the cheapest pint of all time!
